Goodness gracious!

I take it this property is a rental? Messy and uncooperative tenants are certainly a downside of selling tenanted properties.

My father Jim Paltridge has already built a floating house here in new zealand. and as far as we know, was the first one in new zealand. the house was engineered by earnest lapish, and was built by my father (a builder by trade) in the waikato on the fload plains of the waikato river. The house has been featured in an issue of "The Shed magazine" and in the progressive building trade magazine.
Good to see other people are thinking of this idea now too!

We too have had many people checking out Auckland as a place to relocate once they get a payout in the south, but you will interested to hear that many of them have said that if they stay in the South Island that Nelson region would be their first choice!

We are fortunate Scott in that we are a small community really, 40k here in Nelson and another 40k in our neighbouring Tasman region.
Were we to be bigger...as in 100k plus or so, as a single entity, and perhaps with an international airport, then I would begin to wonder.
However balancing that is one main, and quite uncontrollable fact. Our little place in the sun Nelson, has a very definite landbank, and its practically used up.
A greater percentage of our residents live closer to the sea than anywhere else in NZ. That's about no more than 5km max., by official figures.
If there was an overriding factor in assisting our local stability, it probably been the high NZ dollar. I'd talk to a European if not every day, then at the least, every second day.... and they loooonnnng for the exchange rates of the early 2000's.
Even today I was speaking to a past client and a friend of his, ex Kiwi, when to England, brought a home not long after he arrived. Hes seen fabulous capital growth there, and so he sold up. BUT hes got his money in the bank in the old dart waiting for the FX rate to climb to the 2.5 ~ 3 NZD$ to the pound.
Me thinks he might be waiting a while.....

It is good to know that somewhere in the world there is a stable market in real estate. Real estate in florida is in a bad state right now. Our market is up and down and we don't see a clear end to this nightmare! Nice to know that somewhere there is stability.
