December 22, 2011
With just 9 days to go, and with data currently available via NIWA, I can report that the gap has narrowed a bit over December. Like most Nelsonians, I am also only too aware of the reason for that. (if you’re from out of town, then here’s some raw video from the Summit Rescue chopper to show you what I mean)
Its not going to approach New Zealands highest recorded Annual Sunshine Hours record though. That was 2711 hours back in 1931, & yes, in Nelson too. Nor the highest amount of sunshine in one month, that record still stands at 336 hrs measured back in 1934, and yes, you guessed it, it was also in Nelson.
The Nelson City Council has just published the latest “Live Nelson” publication, it should arrive in your mailbox today, and again I find myself at odds with their illustration of the data?
I note they are quoting data up to 15th Dec 2011, and that shows Whakatane as in front of Nelson? The data I have taken from NIWA, up til 20th Dec 2011, as shown here above, places Nelson on 2400.6hrs, in the lead.
