NZs 2nd Sunniest Place for 2010 is Nelson

January 12th 2011

Sub Heading – Neilsen wins, Nelsen wins,  Nelson WINS comes second in 2010 sunshine stakes.

After a few long and hot days riding, Jaime Nielsen was recently crowned overall winner of the Annual Tineli Nelson Tour de Femme, held in the elson region.

A few days later, on the 31 December 2010, the Queens New Years honours list is published, and out came the news that captain of our 2010 FIFA World Cup “All Whites” team, and fellow mainlander, (ie: born in the South Island) Ryan Nelsen, was named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for his services to football.

now where is the sun shining in New Zealand?

Hot on the heels of these two winners comes some good news………but not the best news….I thought it was going to be a hat-trick…..but no Whakatane just edged Nelson out as the sunshine capital of New Zealand for 2010 according to data/press release  just released today by NZ’s NIWA (New Zealands National Institute of Water and Atmosphere Research)

Oh well……there’s always next year…..and one thing Nelson does have in its favour is its long term history when it comes to annual sunshine records.

That will definitely take another town decades to beat……then again with these so called “Global Warming Times” that we live in now, I guess its not surprising that somewhere closer to the equator than us pipped us this year.
