Kite Surfing in Nelson – Wednesday after work fun

November 25th, 2010

If you’re fortunate enough to live in Nelson, then when summertime comes around, your mind naturally turns to the beach, and we are blessed with Tahunanui Beach right on our doorstep .

Take yesterday……

you head on down to the carpark at the western end of the Tahunanui Main Beach to get set up.

There always usually a breeze but looks like last nights was a bit than just a gentle zephyr.

She was sure blowing,  but it definitely assisted some Kite Surfers to get some really “big air!”

Considering that the beach is under 5 minutes from Stoke or Nelson, its not hard to imagine why such a sport attracts so many local residents, and tourists too if the carpark campervans were anything to go by.

Kite surfing has grown in popularity locally so much so that there are now at least 2 different local businesses who can train you and set you up ready to go yourself.

They even make the training easy by having a go with a sort of simulator.

Instead of starting with the large sail, they offer first up its mini-me brother – as above video depicts.

Some other locals decided it was a glorious day to go for a beach walk too.
