Grasp Augmented Reality with this example here

June 6th, 2010

I’ve talked many times before about just how fast this technology is advancing, not just that but also the quite evolutionary effect it may have on future Real Estate buying.

With Google shipping over 100,000 Android phones a day, and Apple about to announce (more than likely at tomorrows Apple Developer Conference in San Francisco) the iPhone 4,  the massive number of devices capable (mobile, fast processor, good screen and good camera) of handling Augmented Reality applications just grows and grows.

But for some folk who aren’t as PC (as in computer PC) literate, its often quite hard for them to comprehend or picture just exactly what it is I’m talking about.

So therefore, this evening we have the perfect example that should make anyone, “get it.”

I hope it illustrates to even the worst technopobics out there what this new “Augmented Reality Technology” is about.

And from this, you should then also be able to imagine if the internet was 5 times faster, and reasonably priced webcams were a lot clearer and in higher resolution that you probably wouldn’t need to pop down to the corner post office to see how much shipping costs you have to charge to send that just sold auction item.

Ah thats better - perfect fit even room for a small A5 Pad too

In fact those guys themselves like E-Bay should be some of the first adopters and “loud speakers” about this.

In a nutshell it projects holograms of their packaging boxes onto your webcam screen ………… its probably easier to try it out rather than trying to explain it.

So if you’ve got your webcam ready and the latest Flash Player, you too can try it out over here at the United States Postal Service.
