Calling Australian Property Investors
….or ex-pat Kiwis residing in Australia.
Ever thought about owning an investment property in NZ?
Just found out about this, unfortunately it looks like it ends tomorrow – 9th May, for travel between 01 May to 30 Sept 09.
Great deals like this one at present would allow you to not only visit our great land, but also have enough time (12 days in this examples case) to case the place out for investment / rental properties.
In the example link above, you fly to Auckland from Syd or Brisb or others, and over the period of 12 days drive through the North Island down to Wellington, across on the Inter-Island Ferry (included) and then spend time in the South Island before exiting out of Christchurch back to Australia.
By lining up appointments in advance with an agent in your noimated or desired town in NZ, you could also save valuable time. You’d just have to let the Real Estate Agent know what day you’re in town and they could line up 3-4-5-6 visits over a few hours to see what they have available in that town / city.
I believe there could also be some taxation benefits of owning an investment property in NZ ****

There is also a “cheap-skate” option that I spoke about back in Feb 09. Surprisingly enough even though our busy Summer season is over there were still some options available for free hire. The catch with this one is that it works in reverse, you’d fly into Christchurch usually, and then reposition rental vehicles back to, in most cases, Auckland (and in most cases the ferry crossing is included too)
Seems 90 % of visitors to NZ start in Auckland and transit with their rental vehicle south, usually ending up in Christchurch, hence the existance of a repositioning issue.
Great way to visit NZ, and hey, even the buying trip may have some tax advantages**** too.
**** – please doiuble check with your tax professional to confirm.
