Local Twins still laughing at 90

Things like this don’t happen every day, even in Nelson. So that’s why it made it in full glorious colour onto the front page of the local paper, The Nelson Mail.

Wally is pictured celebrating his, and his twin brother Doug’s 90th birthday. As Wally has told me “you still have to have fun” and I’ll bet that’s a good part of the recipe that has seen both twin brothers reach this milestone.

Well, that plus his life long love of trout fishing. Its one of the reasons when they retired, & brought their new home (in 1987 that was) next to the Matai River in Nelson, a place from where they could go out for a stroll riverside just a few metres from home, and still view trout in the river.

On Tuesday, the Ernest Rutherford Retirement Village, where Doug currently resides, organised a special birthday party for the two couples and extended family.

And you might be wondering, is there any connection with Nelson Real Estate here – well it just so happens that Wally & his lovely wife Vonda are moving also to a 2 bedroom townhouse unit at the same retirement home, and currently have selected me to handle the sale of their one owner home next to the Matai River in town.

Must be something in the air or water locally, and maybe the world reknown clearest water too, because at 90, both Wally & Doug still have over 12 years to go to catch up with another local trout fisherman.
