Google can help save you $$$?

Yes it sure does, especially when it powers a site like TIPJAR, currently listed as a Google Moderator Beta site.

Tipjar is a community submitted and community ranking website that I would hope, with moderated assistance, offers browsers hints & tips to save money. This after all is one of the community, local or wider, principles of the Internet.

A quick look through the present tip’s …hows this… khoki in South Africa suggests  “Wait for movies to come out on DVD, then invite friends and family over. Let them bring food or snacks and settle in for a great social evening” (Kiwis – pot luck?)

Google Beta sites do sometimes come & go, thus I’m unsure if this one, that currently is supported by them (as in the URL is definitely kind of unusual) is here to stay or not, but the content gets you thinking.

Or this “Don’t go to the grocery store with an empty stomach.” – sent in by choosetosave

This one from Beekman in Chicago is more than a bit different..?  “”When shipping a package, add helium filled air pillows to reduce its weight – thereby saving on postage, helping the plane fly and reducing emissions.”

As of today, Tipjar has the following statistics, 4,994 folk have submitted 3, 834 tips, and overall 56,198 votes have been cast.

As it is with the web, it will be interesting to see how many “posters” turn out to be advertisers, however there is a “flag as inappropriate” button to click, for content deemed as such, so I suspect & trust it will get some use.

I live in expectation that hopefully the site doesn’t turn out as yet another medium for spammers. With Google on board though I live in anticipation, and the overall intentions great.

Nelson Suburb Sold Medians so far in 2009

Depicted here are the numbers for Nelson so far this year, aggregrated from 1st January to the “retailers dream day” (another Black Friday Sale) this year, the 13th March 2009.

As you can see some numbers, sample wise, are not enough to be indicative of any trend, but I’ve included them anyway just so that you can judge for yourself.

If, like me, you have a grey hair or two, then just click on the chart and a much easier to read larger version will appear. And I’ve just noticed I have used the word sample size in the headings of the chart, ignore that word sample, the numbers are the actual real numbers, not a sample. (curious about numbers / figures, then this is what real big numbers look like)

Happy to answer any questions……..?
