Mike’s Comments

Last newsletter I commented on what has been happening in the community over the last period whilst we have been in the depths of the recession.

Well has the tide changed? There appears to be a level of confidence creeping into the market place as several companies in town appear to be repositioning getting ready for the future. The Warehouse coming to town certainly has made several take note of their particular operation, restructure and reconsidered their direction. I know of one company soon to reopen on the Main shopping street (Albert St) and also Peninsula Vets who have doubled their retail space providing in store more consumables for your pets and animals. Other stores also appear to be increasing and changing product ranges etc. to take on The Warehouse and capitalise on more shoppers being drawn to Whitianga.

Talking to the staff at Whitianga Waterways I was encouraged to hear they have signed off 5 new houses to be built on the canals. This is a good sign, a great turning point. Whitianga Waterways are also close to starting the first stage of the retirement village. This will be a great asset to Whitianga and doesn’t come soon enough as far as I’m concerned.

So the challenge for each and everyone of us who wish to call Whitianga home is to encourage opportunities, create some positive action and make “Your Town” the place too be, the place where our families can grow enjoy and prosper.

Cheers Mike
