The best NZ Real Estate Blog (2)

Posted on: November 24th, 2008 | Filed in Real Estate Industry News

In August this year I wrote a blog entitled the best New Zealand real estate blog wherein I highlighted several blogs which I felt at the time were worthy of mention.

As an update to that original posting I am pleased to see that Deon Swigg’s New Plymouth Real Estate blog continues to go from strength to strength. Deon won the prize for September Blogger of the Month, with over 100 articles relating to the New Plymouth real estate scene one can easily understand why Deon has attracted over 10,000 unique visitors to his site.

A more recent addition to the Voices Platform is David Leggot writing from sunny Nelson. David was the November Blogger of the Month showing that consistency in writing and adding regular and interesting content to his site pays off. David also makes very good use of graphs and photographic images.

There are many other salespeople using the Voices Platform to showcase their area, themselves and their unique set of real estate skills. Make sure you have a look as there is probably someone writing about your district.

I applaud the new breed of real estate salesperson in New Zealand, those that are embracing technology in order to provide their clients, present and future, with the best possible service. These salespeople appreciate that by speaking regularly to their audience, whilst gradually revealing their enthusiasm, commitment and knowledge earns them their audiences trust and in time perhaps that person’s business. Compare these blogs to the old fashioned static website, wherein the agent in a few lines told you they were “passionate about real estate” and “have integrity” – you’ll quickly see that the difference is quite staggering. It brings to mind a quote “learning is not compulsory, but neither is survival” by W.E Deming

Whilst blogging may not be suitable for every salesperson or agent, those that do utilize this form of online marketing have demonstrated a willingness to adapt to the changing market. I know from talking to Deon and David that both have gained business directly from having a blog – and good luck to them.

I think you forget to mention your blog in this Sharon. So I will. Your information is second to none. Your the only business broker that is actively doing this type of thing and in my searches on the internet about anything to do with business your blog always comes up. This is great. I know you will be gaining great business from this blog and likewise your enthusiasm screams through the words on this blog.
I have a new blog now. :) So a new start, new challenges but it will all pay off. Well done on your video. The second too adopt it. Good stuff!

  2. Its great to see that the early adopters in NZ are utilizing the platform for a great selection and range of information pertaining to Real Estate in NZ. With video and pod-casting coming on stream lately its offering opportunities unheard of just a few years ago for browsers to view or hear that information richly.
I believe the fact that you got on early, with a great blog name to boot, and have provided great information out there will invariably reflect in your business, all over the country. And the time spend chatting with you recently was much appreciated.

Agree with Deon – Sharon your site is always interesting to read and you were one of the early adopters. I have been pretty busy lately so been a bit slack updating with local area info – but thanks to Deon as soon as we get a good day I will make a video of all the great amenities on offer in the Pt Chevalier to Ponsonby area and insert a youtube clip on the left site of my blog.
Deon has certainly set the pace lately and have to say thanks Deon for that youtube set of instructions!

  4. Thanks for the comments and support guys.

Deon, I hope the move to Christchurch is smooth sailing all the way and what a great opportunity for a real estate blogger, just think of all the new topics you’ll be able to explore in your new district. I know those from Christchurch who have been following your original blog will be looking forward to actually meeting you in person.

David,I’ve yet to familiarise myself with podcasting – not even sure what it is at this point or whether it’s suitable for my community. By the way, I don’t take any credit for the name of my blog, having started straight after the Christmas break and not quite up to full speed it was all I could come up with, sometimes it just works when you are the first!

Ross, I’m looking forward to seeing your video, I have fond memories of your area having spent my student days flatting in Ponsonby, Grey Lynn and Herne Bay. I remember my flatmate’s Mother buying ‘our’ house in John Street for $175K, if only I knew then….
