The REINZ Annual Conference and AGM are being held on 18th and 19th September in Rotorua – registrations for the REINZ Conference close on 10 September.
In view of last week’s passing of the Real Estate Agents Bill by the government and the possible consequential changes that will result from the new Act, the REINZ Annual General Meeting, Conferences and associated social events will be an opportunity for some valuable dialogue between industry members on both a formal and informal basis.
The new Act is going to have a profound impact on the Real Estate industry and REINZ as the representative body. The Act comes into effect 14 months after Royal assent to allow enough time for the establishment of the new Real Estate Agents Authority and for the industry to supposedly come up to speed with the reforms.
Staying informed and participating in these changes is important to all salespeople, being involved at an early stage means balanced representation is provided. We are all individuals and as such are entitled to our own point of view, diverse representation from within the industry is positive and will enable the industry to move forward and embrace the coming challenges and changes.
Remain apathetic now, don’t complain later.

I could not agree more – this industry needs to have the opportunity to build a great future around a representative body.
The changes in the Act can empower changes which so many in this industry welcome – however without broad representation and discussion at events such as the AGM missed opportunities may be the legacy. A situation far from what people want I am sure.

The AGM is the perfect opportunity for salespeople to network with others from all real estate disciplines and from all over the country. Not only to discuss the changes brought about by the new Act, but also the current challenges facing the industry due to the economic recession.
While I believe around two thirds of all salespeople are connected to the larger marketing groups such as Century 21, Harcourts, 1st National, Professionals, Bayleys etc perhaps giving them more chance to network outside their own immediate environs, there are also around one third of salespeople with smaller independent agencies who perhaps don’t get the same opportunity.
It’s easy to remain uninvolved and assume that someone else will take care of ‘things’, it’s also easy to then critisize from a distance those that do put their hand up. Of course not everyone has the time nor the inclination to take an active role, but surely it can only aid those that do if they have a fair idea of what the majority wants.
I might see you there. Unfortunately i can only make one day of it. At least i will be able to meet you and many others in person. I look forward to it
Sounds good Deon, which day are you going to be there, I’ll keep an eye out for you.
