Aerial images and mapping has now become a standard component of all real estate listings on the web – however the question is often asked as to how often the images are updated. The true answer is “we don’t know”. All we know is that it is likely to be more regular in the future given the falls in the price of the technology.
In the light of this it was interesting to be shown a property yesterday listed on realestate.co.nz which when linked across to the property details on Zoodle showed almost the identical aerial image and Google Street View as the listing images – how is that for up-to-date presentation of a property!
The boat and the car are clearly visible in both the aerial photo and the street view, as is the boat in the listing photo. What is also interesting is the for sale sign in the Street View image – this has got to be a very recent set of photos all taken by chance around the same time. All 3 taken by different means and different companies!

One thing I find great with access to all this new information is the ability to show the immediate surroundings, for example this one has a boat ramp, beach and parks all within easy walking distance. Not only do you get an aerial view of the property but when the satellite image is selected and zoomed in you can see all the local features.
It makes it so much easier especially for an out of town or overseas buyer to get a good feel for the property.
The only way this set of images could be cooler, is if in the aerial photo, you could see the agent taking the photos for the listing.
No, wait, perhaps it would be much cooler if you could see the agent taking the photos in the Google Streetview image with the Google Streetview car visible in the aerial photos.
Yeah, that would be cool.
Love the way zoodle now links thorugh and shows properties that are for sale http://www.zoodle.co.nz/1/4500150100
Russell,
We love it too!! – thanks for the comment – don’t forget to spread the word “have you zoodled today”!
Like the house – a great make over and very convenient to the shops.
Agree it’s great that if you search a property on zoodle it is immediately obvious if it is on the market so long as it is listed on realestate.co.nz Alistair- how soon after a property is listed on realestate.co.nz does it appear on zoodle.co.nz for example this one http://www.zoodle.co.nz/1/5400140000 appeared on realestate.co.nz last week but took a few days to appear on zoodle? Does it also pick up properties listed on other sites ie private sales on trademe.co.nz
Ross
To answer the question – here is the process.
When we receive a new listing on realestate.co.nz we first verify the address to be able to create geo-coordiates for it which allows up to map it. If the property has been marked with a “display the address” we then do a search to establish the unique identifer for the property – a Valuation reference #. If we can match the property with a valuation reference in the Terralink database then we link the photos of the property and property particulars (price, bedrooms and other particulars) to the Zoodle page for that property. All of this of course takes around 0.3 seconds. Hope that answers the question.
Oh at this stage Zoodle only shows listing that are on realestate.co.nz
Realestate.co.nz is a comprehensive, useful site, but let down by poor reliability. In particular, the site often fails to display data correctly for search results. Seems to happen often in the weekends?

I would be really keen to better understand the details of your comments so we can either fix the issue or highlight why something may not work to your expectation. Please post the details here or email us at info at realestate.co.nz
