Interesting to read in this mornings NBR that real estate agent's income's have increased over the past year to $77,000 on average. That could be one way of advocating a career in Real Estate as well as the lifestyle advantages.

What I have noticed lately in Australia and New Zealand are real estate companies offering a salary plus bonuses.Thats even happening here in Dunedin. Seems to be $50,000 plus bonuses on average.

With the changes in law - not just the introduction of the REAA 2008 but the Lawyers & Conveyancers Act 2006 - there is a much wider choice for consumers on how they sell their property.

Our company would be happy to share our sales statistics with REINZ, if only they had their act together to allow us to be members.

I have always been a strong advocate for REINZ but my enthusiasm for them is seriously waning. As for the REAA - since they have insisted on salespeople providing CMA's they need to give us the tools to do this especially if REINZ's statistics are not robust enough.

I believe that each office has to pay to be a member of the REINZ and during a tough market you have to cut your costs and some may have not pain the REINZ fee. So if you are not a member why would you give them your stats.

Second it is not obligatory to submit your stats and I believe that some harried or lazy offices have not bothered. The REINZ should be issuing all offices who have no automatic system with the software that helps the office with inputting sales for their own cost analysis, but after every entry fires that entry off to REINZ.

as Alistair states "why not?"

Maybe hes hinting at the RCA/Columbia/Hoyts, Warner Bros, CIC, Village Roadshow situation that he, just like me in a past life has experienced, where timely feedback/transparency was really important.
At the end of the day there is really only that one reason - natural selection....ooophs "competition."
As readers from maths 101 may note 95% is more than 85% so REINZ the game is in your court!

An excellent question - why would any professional agent not submit the data to REINZ? - I could not agree with you more, they should.

As to whether the REAA should make it compulsory - please no!

I have worked in many industries and in all of them competing companies submitted sales data (aggregate) to a neutral body that collated in confidence the total for all companies. This aggregated sales data for the market was vital to assess the health of the market and your own share. The real estate industry does not need to look to the government to regulate on a matter that is so important for the industry Association.

These sales data are a core asset for the industry and everyone in it - they are valuable, just as is the core data from Realestate.co.nz which we are sharing more and more with the public and the industry. We have over 95% of all offices submitting listings so we can provide rich and accurate stats on so much of the dynamics of the market for the benefit of the market.

Thanks Colin,

Yes indeed "customers" - you are quite correct.

Seems we were experiencing a few technical glitches yesterday - relating to apostrophes in our heading. This appears to be rectified now.

Thanks for your interest.
